Muhammad is a Muslim prophet (570 – 632/633 A.D.). One of the heroes of the Muslim word prophet Muhammad originated from the city of Mecca. However, for various reasons he had to leave his Fatherland. Soon he settled in the neighboring Medina and grounded there the first house of worship – a mosque.

From there the prophet began to preach about unification of all Arabs, both townspeople and Bedouins, into one Muslim community. The number of Muhammad’s followers was rapidly increasing, and soon he became the actual ruler of Medina which competed with Mecca in the Arabia not only in the trade business.

Pretty soon a real war began between Medina and Mecca. At first, only ill luck pursued Muhammad’s warriors. He only had success at Badr when he with a small group attacked a large trade caravan of Meccans which was making its way through the Arabia from the North. The caravan’s guard was headed by Abu Sufyan, a famous commander from the lineage of Omayad. The Medina warriors’ attack was so drastic and sudden that the outmanning Quraysh caravan guards had to escape into the sands.

Muhammad had only 313 warriors in that battle, while the merchant caravan’s guard consisted of 950 men. The prophet’s followers attacked the merchant caravan dismounted, holding shields in front of them. The guards attacked them mounted and, having lost about 50 men, disseminated all around, leaving almost as much men captured. The winners lost only 14 warriors. Muhammad ordered to detain one third of the goods won away from the Meccan merchants for God, his family, orphans, beggars and poor travelers, and the rest to divide between the warriors who had participated in the attack against the Quraysh merchant caravan – that was how members of the Arabia caravan track trade guard guild were called in Mecca.
